Luanda/Cabinda airfare reduced by 25 percent

Luanda, ANGOLA, November 9 - The Angola Airlines (TAAG) airfare on the Luanda/Cabinda route will be reduced by about 25 percent as from November this year. ,

The decision that brings TAAG's Luanda/Cabinda return ticket from Akz 46,000 down to Akz 33,000 (Usd 1 is Akz 166) follows Wednesday’s first ordinary session of the Cabinet Council’s Economic Commission.

According to the director general of the Finance Ministry’s Price and Competition Institute, António Cruz Lima, the decree that makes the airfare drop official might be gazetted some time this month.

Speaking at the end of the meeting of the Cabinet Council’s Economy Commission held in Cabinda city, Cruz Lima said the Government is still looking into some aspects that affect the airfare.

He mentioned the price of fuels, the airport parking fees and other indirect costs TAAG has to pay for in its ground operations.

The official stressed that the Government’s subsidy on  TAAG’s Luanda/Cabinda return airfare is irreversible.

Cruz Lima also informed that the head of State João Lourenço has instructed the ministries of Finance and Transport to work together and devise solutions to a number of outstanding matters.

The Luanda/Cabinda airfare has been in the centre of a heated debate and the decision to bring it down is meant to soften the impact of the geographic discontinuity of the region.
