Sassou Nguesso was speaking after taking over the rotating chair of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), that held its 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government.
The Congolese Statesman paid a tribute to the outgoing President of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos, and congratulated his successor, João Lourenço, who was installed last September.
He spoke of the need to promote trust among the member States of the community.
The president focused on real regional integration, taking advantage of socio-economic potential for development.
Nguesso also defended coexistence among populations and the free movement of people and goods in the Great Lakes region.
Angola, which had been at the helm of ICGLR since February 2014, handed over the organisation’s mandate during the summit.
