Angola's ICGLR presidency praised

Brazzaville, ANGOLA, October 19 - The deputy secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), Vicente Muanda, Thursday in Brazzaville considered positive Angola?s mandate at the head of the organisation. ,

Vicente Muanda was speaking to Angop on the fringes of the 7th Summit of the ICGLR Heads of State and Government during which the Angolan president, João Lourenço, handed over the presidency to his host counterpart, Denis Sassou Nguesso.

According to the diplomat, the countries of the region recognise Angola’s good performance in running the organisation, with stress to the promotion of dialogue and conflict resolution.

The diplomat also spoke of the need for the heads of State of the region to adopt strategies to prevent the financing of rebel groups and implement measures to secure jobs for young people in order to promote social stability and economic development in their countries.

He considered appropriate Angola’s strategy of promoting  reconciliation and dialogue in conflict resolution and seeking lasting peace, contrary to imposition of solutions that end up violated by the parties.

He mentioned the case of the Democratic Republic of Congo where, despite the engagement of Angola, of the region and the international community, setbacks still occur.

 

According to him, in conflict resolution, the mediation is supposed to help rather than imposing solutions as dialogue is the only path to solutions.

On the other hand, the ICGLR deputy secretary appealed to the member countries to help settle the instability prevailing in the DRC, Central Africa Republic, Burundi, Sudan and South Sudan.
