Luanda, ANGOLA, October 10 - Angola's Defence Minister, Salviano de Jesus Sequeira "Kianda", ensured on Monday in Funda region (Cacuaco) that his ministry will continue the modernization process of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) in order to empower them with the capacity of intervening in the spaces under their responsibility. ,

The defence minister, who was speaking at the ceremony celebrating the 26th anniversary of the creation of the FAA, said that these tasks should be complemented by the construction and rehabilitation of barracks and troops' accommodation facilities.

 

To him, other efforts will join the process of building defence industries so as to reduce external dependence on the provision of essential goods and services to the FAA.

 

He added this will allow to attract retired military personnel, either by limitation of time or by physical limitations, as well as young people coming from different courses in academic institutions".

 

The official stressed that today, besides the missions enshrined in the Constitution, other challenges, along with international commitments, such as peace support missions and support for populations in emergencies and natural disasters, terrorism and illegal immigration, it requires them to be well-trained and equipped.

 

On the other hand, the minister recalled that the military units are a common good and with specific missions, in which their commanders must always be concerned with the commitment of their staff, knowing how to take advantage of the differences of thought for the their empowerment.

 

The 26-year anniversary of the creation of the FAA was attended by generals, subordinates, admirals, the provincial governor of Luanda, members of society and ecclesiastical entities in a parade that counted on the participation of more than a thousand members of FAA three branches.
