FEMP Offers New Course about On-Site Renewable Energy Project Implementation

The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) released Renewable Energy On-Site Project Implementation Process, a new accredited, on-demand training course that introduces a five-phase process for implementing federal on-site renewable energy projects to meet agency goals.

The course reviews current statutory and executive order renewable energy goals, introduces available procurement pathways, reviews best practices from successful federal projects, and provides up-to-date technical tools and resources to support project success.

The course is part of FEMP's four-course certificate series Planning and Financing Renewable Energy Projects, which discusses the fundamentals of renewable energy systems, including primary components, requirements, and best practices for utilizing renewable energy for electricity, heating, cooling, and other applications at federal facilities.

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand federal requirements related to renewable energy and the pathways for meeting these requirements
  • Apply the five-phase process for identifying and implementing renewable energy projects
  • Identify available renewable energy procurement options
  • Access FEMP services and tools to help evaluate and implement renewable energy projects.

The technical leads for this course are Rachel Shepherd, LEED AP, FEMP renewable energy program manager and Tracy Niro, FEMP renewable energy procurement program manager.

After completing a course evaluation and multiple-choice assessment, participants will receive a certificate of completion and be eligible for continuing education units.

FEMP training courses are designed for federal energy and facility managers but are open to all individuals through the FEMP Training Search. Courses are hosted in partnership with the National Institute of Building Sciences' Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG).

Requires Google Chrome, Firefox 4.0+, Internet Explorer 7.0+ or Safari, and the Adobe Flash 9+ plugin.
