/EINPresswire.com/ -- HONOLULU, HAWAII--(Marketwired - Aug 31, 2017) - Symphony Honolulu has become the first new 400-foot tall high-rise residential condominium building to achieve LEED® Certification under the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®).

Developed by OliverMcMillan, Symphony Honolulu includes 388 residential condominiums at the corner of Ward Avenue and Kapiolani Boulevard. The LEED Certification process was managed by Chelsea Group, Ltd.

"We are honored and proud to be recognized by USGBC with this LEED Certification achievement at Symphony Honolulu, which represents the culmination of years of teamwork to make the building more efficient and sustainable," said Kris Hui, development director of OliverMcMillan. "We are pleased that our residents can share in the operational benefits that come from living in a sustainable building and they can proudly be a part of history."

"OliverMcMillan, AHL (formerly known as Architects Hawaii Ltd.), Notkin Hawaii and General Contractor Nordic PCL have embraced a sustainability program within the design and construction of Symphony Honolulu, and Chelsea Group has been pleased to contribute to that effort," said George Benda, CEO of Chelsea Group.

All new construction projects in Kaka'ako are required to meet minimum energy savings standards equivalent to the LEED® based certification level, per the Hawaii Community Development Authority's 2011 Mauka Area rules.

Symphony Honolulu, completed in 2016, utilizes many sustainable practices that contributed to the LEED® Certification, including water efficient fixtures and systems reducing potable water use by 35%, enhanced building envelope and mechanical systems allowing for annual energy cost savings of 13%, a 161 kW Photovoltaic energy system, and construction waste diversion practices achieving diversion of 91% of the on-site generated construction waste from landfills.

Home to many local families, OliverMcMillan notes that 85% of their original buyers were from Oahu and that 100 Reserved Housing residences were delivered to many first-time homebuyers. To date, with the completion of Pacifica Honolulu and Symphony Honolulu, OliverMcMillan has provided 224 for-sale Reserved Housing units in Kaka'ako, representing 36% of the total 617 completed for-sale reserved units built since HCDA started its for-sale Reserved Housing inclusionary housing program in 1987.

Symphony Honolulu features contemporary design, panoramic views and finely orchestrated amenities that remind residents why they live in Hawaii. Completed in 2016, 99% of the building is sold. OliverMcMillan, in partnership with JN Group, Inc., also offers a variety of additional concierge-style amenities for residents such as private driving service, and now can add LEED® certification to the list.
