EU launches re-integration projects worth €33 million in Somalia
In an event in Mogadishu on 5 April, five projects under the EU Trust Fund RE-INTEG Programme facilitating reintegration of displaced people were launched. The €33 million allocated to these projects will ensure access to basic services and promote viable livelihoods for 300,000 people in displacement affected communities countrywide, including those affected by the drought.

Responding to urgent reintegration needs with long-term support The five RE-INTEG grant projects that were launched are providing long-term support to the urgent challenge of sustainable and durable integration of returnees and IDPs in Somalia and aims to anchor populations within the country. The projects will be implemented by five consortia led by Norwegian Refugee Council in Jubaland, Concern Worldwide in South West, UN Habitat in Banadir, CARE in Galmudug and Puntland and World Vision International in Somaliland. RE-INTEG will support reintegration through the following activities, among other things:
- Education and vocational training
- Health and nutrition
- Access to water and hygiene
- Shelter and housing
- Gender based violence prevention and child protection
- Social cohesion and cooperation with local authorities
Background
The €50 million RE-INTEG Programme is funded by the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa. This initiative is part of the Regional Development and Protection Programme for the Horn of Africa (RDPP), which is coordinated by the Netherlands. RDPP also invests in durable solutions in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Sudan.
