Grid Modernization Initiative 2017 Peer Review

The U.S. Department of Energy will hold a peer review of its Grid Modernization Initiative (GMI) projects on April 18–20, 2017, at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. This event will be open to the public and will provide an opportunity to learn about the current state of technology and network with energy sector stakeholders. A portfolio of more than eighty grid modernization projects across thirteen programs will be reviewed. The comprehensive review will look at the projects at a program level, provide lessons learned, and share best practices. Twenty-nine foundational projects will be examined in the peer review process, where industry leaders will serve as objective reviewers. A dedicated poster session will provide the opportunity for attendees to learn about the other projects in the portfolio.

All GMI activities are guided by the Grid Modernization Multi-Year Program Plan (MYPP), which describes a portfolio of activities to help set the nation on a cost-effective path to a resilient, secure, sustainable, and reliable grid that is flexible enough to provide an array of emerging services while remaining affordable to consumers. The MYPP describes the RD&D activities the Department will focus on over the four years, including opportunities for public-private partnerships. For more information about the Department's strategic comprehensive approach to grid modernization, visit the Grid Modernization Initiative section of the Energy Department website.
