In his keynote address to participants at the ceremony, the Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Alhaji Aliyu Bello Tola noted how important women are in the development of the society and called on everyone to take the bold step for a change of attitude towards women in our societies.
In her own speech, the president of the Widow’s Council Mrs Hilda Makanto urged participants present to promote women’s engagement in peace and security in Northern Nigeria, emphasized the need to always involve women from all strata of societal development in decision making. ‘’Women are everything in the world, no woman, no world’’ she added.

The International Rescue Committee in its own goodwill message signed by the Nigeria Program Country Director, Sarah Ndikumana, recalls that while much has been done to promote and bridge the gap between men and women in Nigeria, much remains to be done. “We call for justice for survivors of gender- based violence and fight against impunity for perpetrators of such crimes. Women, girls men and boys deserve to live in an environment that is free from physical and sexual violence and where services are provided for them to access without limitations” the message concluded”
IRC’s Women Protection and Empowerment (WPE) program in North East, Nigeria provides case management, individual counselling to survivors of gender-based violence, prevents and mitigates the incidence of emotional abuse through training and economic empowerment activities for women.
