"Son of Dublin" Concert Celebrates Irish-American Music Master's Legacy

SON OF DUBLIN The Irish Music of Victor Herbert LIVE! In Concert presented by VHRP LIVE! at 8pm March 8-9, 2017; 120 W69th St NYC

VHRP LIVE! presents an Irish-themed concert of songs and music from Dublin-born American composer Victor Herbert and his famous Irish grandfather Samuel Lover.

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, February 6, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- In March 2017, "Son of Dublin" continues the celebration of the Ireland-inspired works by Irish-born American composer Victor Herbert, and his grandfather Samuel Lover, a famous Dubliner musician, artist, philosopher, and novelist.

"Son of Dublin" is presented by the Victor Herbert Renaissance Project LIVE! A cast of nine male and female singers will perform the concert's some 22 songs from a program of original songs and traditional Irish music such as “Molly,” “Mary Came Over To Me,” and “Old Ireland Shall Be Free," among a treasury of other works in this musical tribute to Herbert's Irish heritage.

An historically notable inclusion in the "Son of Dublin" concert is "The Bards of Ireland," a song cycle of old Irish airs with words by Thomas Moore arranged by Herbert in 1909 for the Annual St Patrick's Day Dinner of The Society of the Friendly Sons of St Patrick, attended by U.S. President William H. Taft.

"Son of Dublin" features an extra special dash of Dublin with music by the extraordinary Samuel Lover (1797-1868), Herbert’s grandfather, the Irish music hall composer, painter, poet, philosopher, and author. Lover influenced his grandson's artistic strengths deeply — his 1835 novel Rory O'Moore provided the basis for the plot of Herbert's 1917 romantic operetta "Eileen," the upcoming April 2017 season finale of VHRP LIVE!

The "Son of Dublin" cast — seasoned, professional, classical singers and stage performers whose careers encompass roles in major productions in New York City) features VHRP LIVE! company members Vira Slywotzky, Joanie Brittingham, Katherine Corle, Ross Brown, Jason Robinette, Anthony Maida, Jovani McCleary, Richard Holmes, and David Seatter. Musical direction and piano are by Michael Thomas; with libretto by Alyce Mott, choreography and stage direction by Emily Cornelius.

Running time for "Son of Dublin" is approximately 90 minutes. Concert tickets cost $10 to $35 with discounts available on-line, via www.vhrplive.org and www.tdf.org up until noon on performance days. Full price tickets are sold at the door, starting at 7:30pm on Wednesday March 8, and Thursday March 9, at 120 West 69th Street in Christ and St Stephen's Church, near Broadway.

The Victor Herbert Renaissance Project LIVE! is the world's only company exclusively dedicated to restoring the popularity of the music of Victor Herbert, an Irish-born American composer, conductor, musician, and orchestration legend who indelibly influenced the foundations of the American musical theater by making fine work accessible to his contemporary audiences.
