February 14 PSERC Webinar: The Sharing Economy for the Smart Grid

The DOE-funded Power Systems Engineering Research Center (PSERC) is offering a free public webinar that will explore sharing economy opportunities in the electricity sector. Motivated by the innovative business models of companies  that leverage underutilized infrastructure by resource sharing, this webinar will discuss regulatory and technical challenges, as well as the specific problem of a collection of firms sharing their electricity storage. The presentation will also discuss control technology platforms necessary for the physical exchange of power, and market platforms necessary to trade electricity storage.

This webinar will be led by Kameshwar Poolla, the Cadence Distinguished Professor at the University of California at Berkeley in EECS and ME. Dr. Poolla serves as Founding Director of the IMPACT Center for Integrated Circuit Manufacturing, and is the co-founder of OnWafer Technologies, which was acquired by KLA-Tencor in 2007. Dr. Poolla's current research interests include many aspects of future energy systems including economics, security, and commercialization. He has served as a technology and mergers/acquisitions consultant for Cadence Design Systems.

The webinar will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2017, from 2-3 p.m. ET. No pre-registration is necessary.
