December 9, 2016, 12:20

Gazprom and the Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation today signed in Moscow the 2017–2019 Program for scientific & technical cooperation.

The Program is aimed at providing Gazprom with new technologies and innovative products, including import-substituting ones, to further improve the efficiency of the Company’s hydrocarbon exploration, production, transportation, storage, processing and supplies.

The document envisions, inter alia, the creation of an innovative mobile laser facility to respond to oil and petroleum product spills, including in the Arctic environment. It is planned to develop an electron beam method of insulation coating treatment for steel pipes with a view to increase the mechanical performance and durability of insulation. In addition, the signatories intend to create import-substituting equipment for geophysical surveys and Russian 3D modeling hardware and software for building and operating underground gas storage facilities.

Background

The General Cooperation Agreement signed by Gazprom and Rosatom is in effect until 2020.

The two companies have worked together for over 25 years. Rosatom has since supplied Gazprom with more than 120,000 units of equipment. Some 30,000 kilometers of Gazprom’s gas and condensate pipelines are equipped with Rosatom’s software and hardware.
