NZ code shrinks earthquake loads to 60% international standards. 20% Wellington buildings damaged.
NZ’s plan to have smartest seismic building code is compromised by flaws whereby a minor EQ closes the city down. Many jobs transferred to other cities.
Everything before November 14 is Backstory; everything after is the revelation of the Quake-Shrink scandal. Before this moment there was equilibrium, a relative peace that the characters in our nation have grown accustomed to, albeit dysfunctional and stressed.
However, this small inciting event or turning point smashed the city of Wellington and upset the balance of things. There is now a huge problem to be resolved.
Ken Morris should never have taken the engineering job at Quake-Shrink Inc., yet if he had not then the world might not ever have discovered why NZ is founded on low building code standards, low standards that undermine the integrity of the nation.
Ken Morris was instructed by his boss to write a white-wash report explaining-away the proliferation of building damage in Wellington.
Ken’s boss demanded that this report put a positive spin in defense of the rattled earthquake engineering corporations who are tense and angry because the alternate media has been attacking their industry. Many have been accusing the corporations of designing new office buildings that are of third-world standard… Accusing the earthquake corporations of designing buildings that require demolition or major repair as the result of only a minor ground motion from the November 14, 2016 earthquake… Instead of complying, Ken Morris blew the whistle.
