Gazprom opens new CNG stations in six federal districts of Russia

October 4, 2016, 16:40

New CNG stations of Gazprom were put onstream today via a video conference at the 6th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum.

Taking part in the event were Viktor Zubkov, Chairman of the Gazprom Board of Directors, Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, representatives of federal and regional authorities, and heads of Gazprom’s structural units.

Gazprom opened new CNG stations in Barnaul, Borisoglebsk, Semiluki (Voronezh Region), Veliky Novgorod, Gatchina (Leningrad Region), Ipatovo (Stavropol Territory), Novokuznetsk (Kemerovo Region), Novosibirsk, Orsk (Orenburg Region), Saint Petersburg, Tomsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Ufa, and Yaroslavl. The stations have a total annual capacity of 100 million cubic meters of natural gas. They can fuel around 8,000 vehicles a day.

New CNG stations in the Altai Territory, the Kemerovo, Novosibirsk and Tomsk Regions make it possible to create CNG corridors between large cities and regional capitals of Western Siberia. The CNG station built in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is the first one in the Sakhalin Region and the easternmost point of the CNG network in Russia. Its construction has commenced the development of the NGV market in the region. The CNG stations built in Yaroslavl, Semiluki, and Borisoglebsk are the first methane filling stations in these cities.

“The economic and environmental benefits of using natural gas as a vehicle fuel are evident. The domestic NGV market has a great potential for development. Gazprom is consistently expanding its CNG network: today the network added 14 new stations in six federal districts across the country. These cutting-edge facilities offer maximum convenience to our consumers. The number of such stations will increase every year,” said Alexey Miller.

Background

The production and sales of natural gas as a vehicle fuel is one of Gazprom’s priorities. Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo is a special-purpose company established for ensuring the continuous development of the NGV market. At present, Gazprom Group has 228 CNG stations in operation (excluding stations opened today) across Russia.

Natural gas is the most cost-effective, eco-friendly and safest fuel. The average price of one cubic meter of gas for vehicles in Russia is RUB 13. The engines of gas-powered vehicles comply with the highest Euro 5 and Euro 6 standards.
