Warburtons wins community partner prize at FDF Awards
Bolton-based bakery firm Warburtons was declared winner of the 'Community Partner' Award at last night's prestigious Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Awards. The ceremony, held at London's The Brewery, celebrated businesses and industry professionals from across the food and drink supply chain.
The company shared the award with KP Snacks for separate community activities and was recognised for its Warburtons Community Investment Programme, Families Matter. The strategy is designed to drive support to those in need of assistance local to the firm's sites. The assistance offered by the programme takes two main forms. The first approach involves helping families tackle the challenges of today's world – for example by leading healthier lifestyles, managing finances, and recognising the benefits of employment. The second approach adopted involves providing opportunities that support people work towards a better future, such as raising employability prospects and career aspirations. In 2015 the programme supported nearly 380,000 people and 2,200 organisations.
In addition, over £50,000 was donated by colleagues to charities of their choice through payroll giving and nearly 4,000 people were helped through sharing their time and skills in the community.
FDF's Director General Ian Wright said:
“Warburtons is a worthy winner of the Community Partner award this year. It was clear that the firm has made a genuine positive impact through its outreach schemes to help families to lead healthier lifestyles and better manage their finances. Their commitment to partnering with colleagues and communities to assist families, individuals and areas in need is something we should all applaud.
“That Warburtons draws inspiration for its investment programme from its heritage as a family business is self-evident. This business, which has been operating for 140 years, is clearly a strong and central part of its local community.”
