DORTMUND, NW, GERMANY, September 16, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled in favor of Microsoft. The appeal judgment will strengthen the trust of EU customers for the privacy protection of their data in Microsoft Online Services outside the U.S.A.

On 07/14/2016 the Court upheld the position of Microsoft that the U.S. government could not force Microsoft unilaterally gain access to customer data that located exclusively on servers outside the US.

This case demonstrates the commitment by Microsoft to protect customer data, even if this requires judicial action. The decision is important for three reasons: it ensures that the people’s privacy rights are protected by the laws of their own country; it helps to ensure the legal protection of the real world applies to the digital one; and it paves the way for better solutions that meet both the privacy and data protection as well as the law enforcement needs.
