MONTERREY, Mexico, Sept. 06, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (NASDAQ:OMAB) (BMV:OMA), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 10.7% in August 2016, as compared to August 2015. Domestic traffic increased 13.0%, and international traffic decreased 5.6%.

Of total August traffic, 98.4% was commercial aviation and 1.6% was general aviation.

Domestic traffic increased in nine airports in August. The most noteworthy increases were in Monterrey (+11.8%; +82,339 passengers), Culiacán (+19.9%; +24,963), Ciudad Juárez (+31.4%; +24,609), Chihuahua (+19.9%; +19,238), and Torreón (+23.5%; +10,479). Monterrey traffic increased principally because of higher traffic volumes on the Guadalajara, Tijuana and Mexico City routes.  Culiacán traffic increased as a result of higher volumes on its Tijuana and Guadalajara routes. Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, and Torreón increased traffic principally on their Mexico City routes.

International traffic increased in six airports in August. Traffic increased most significantly in Durango (+121.1%; +3,349 passengers), principally because of higher volumes on its Chicago and Los Angeles routes.  Monterrey (-9.6%; -11,920 passengers) recorded the largest decrease, principally because of reduced traffic on its Dallas and Las Vegas routes.

The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in August increased 2.9%.  The number of domestic operations increased 3.5%, and international operations decreased 0.8%.
