DOE Exercises Both Option Periods on the LANL Cleanup Bridge Contract

Los Alamos – The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Environmental Management – Los Alamos Field Office (EM-LA) exercised both the first and second option periods on the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Bridge Contract today. Each option period is for six-months and have a combined total value of $154.7 million. Exercising both option periods now extends the contract to September 30, 2017. Prior to exercising these two options, the contract would have expired on September 30, 2016.

The Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Bridge Contract is a Cost-Plus-Award Fee (CPAF) contract that is for the purpose of providing environmental remediation services at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. The cleanup work is segmented into two distinct performance baseline summaries (PBS): Solid Waste Stabilization and Soil and Water Remediation (which includes and Deactivation and Decommissioning of Nuclear Facilities).

The Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Bridge Contract is intended to be a bridge measure that allows DOE to: 1. Accomplish Secretary of Energy’s objective of achieving increased management control and oversight of DOE Office of Environmental Management (EM)-funded legacy cleanup work at LANL; 2. Facilitate the successful accomplishment of the necessary near-term work scope with the least amount of disruption; and 3.) Provide EM with reasonable time to competitively procure a performance-based, incentive contract for longer term EM Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract (LLCC) requirements.

Los Alamos National Security LLC (LANS), a large business, is the prime contractor. LANS is a consortium of firms which includes Bechtel, AECOM, BWXT Technologies, and the University of California.

LANL is approximately 36 square miles and subdivided into Technical Areas (TA) with sequential numbering. DOE EM-LA is responsible for the large scale legacy environmental cleanup activities at the LANL which is being performed in multiple Technical Areas.
