Nonprofit Youth Development Program Seeks Volunteer Coaches
/EINPresswire.com/ -- CHARLOTTE, NC--(Marketwired - July 22, 2016) - Girls on the Run, a nonprofit physical activity-based positive youth development program that encourages positive emotional, social, mental and physical development is seeking volunteer coaches for the fall season. Coaches are trained to lead a team of 8-15 girls through a ten-week program using a research-based curriculum that incorporates fun running games, dynamic discussions and personal reflection. Opportunities to coach include working with girls in either 3
Last year, Girls on the Run was supported by over 100,000 volunteers nationwide and as the program continues to grow, more coaches are needed. All coaches receive thorough training to learn how to lead a team using an easy-to-follow 20-lesson curriculum. The curriculum is structured to enable coaches to teach important life skills like the importance of trying your best, standing up for yourself and having healthy friendships. By the end of the ten-week program, the girls are emotionally and physical prepared to participate in a celebratory 5k event. Completing the 5k is a tangible way to build confidence through accomplishment and coaches, family, friends and community members all gather to recognize the girls' efforts.
"I choose to be a Girls on the Run coach because each girl that I coach inspires me to be a better person and to push myself and my boundaries," says Girls on the Run coach Jaimee Sidisky. "Some of my best memories are with those girls, and I loved every single day because I knew it mattered to them that I was there."
To coach, volunteers must attend coach training and commit to attend twice-weekly sessions with their teams. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to be a junior coach, 18 years old to be an assistant coach or 21 years old to be a head coach. Volunteers do not need to be runners to coach.
