Gazprom and OMV sign 2016–2020 Program for scientific & technical cooperation and partnership

A working meeting of Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, Peter Loescher, Chairman of the OMV Supervisory Board, and Rainer Seele, Chairman of the OMV Executive Board, took place today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2016.

The meeting participants addressed the bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project that would secure reliable supplies of Russian gas both to Austria and Europe in general, given the growing demand for it.

In the course of the meeting, Oleg Aksyutin, Member of the Gazprom Management Committee, Department Head, and Johann Pleininger, Member of the OMV Executive Board, signed the 2016–2020 Program for scientific & technical cooperation and partnership between the companies.

Under the document, the parties will jointly study the prospects of energy markets, effective drilling technologies, as well as oil and gas production and processing technologies. Furthermore, the companies will cooperate in such key areas as gas transmission system integrity, R&D and innovation management, and environmental protection.

Background

In 2015, Gazprom, BASF/Wintershall, ENGIE, OMV, Shell and Uniper inked the Shareholders Agreement to construct the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline system with the annual capacity of 55 billion cubic meters from Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea.

In April 2016, Gazprom and OMV inked the Agreement for scientific & technical cooperation and partnership between the companies.
