Queen's Birthday Party held in Windhoek
On 15 June, the High Commission hosted a full scale well attended British garden party, complete with a Scottish bagpiper, Fish ‘n’ chips, Pimms and strawberries and cream.
Marking 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare, the High Commission also put emphasis on #ShakespeareLives. Celebrating the legacy of Shakespeare, pupils from St. Paul’s College in Windhoek performed a contemporary adaptation of the well known balcony scene from Romeo & Juliet (with 3 Romeos!).
The UK High Commissioner, Ms Jo Lomas, welcomed the guests, among them Guest of Honour, Hon. Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maureen Hinda and Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Prof. Peter Katjavivi.
Lomas, who has been in Namibia since September 2015, highlighted: “What has really impressed me about Namibia is the determination from the President down to pull together to address poverty and inequality. Here at the BHC we are determined to support Namibia’s objectives through economic growth. My priority is to find areas where British expertise and investment can do just that.”
