All Systems Go for the PotashCorp Children’s Festival

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Cheeky puppets? Check. Silly stuntman? Check. Singers, storytellers and acrobats? Check, check and check.

Entertainers of all kinds are ready to perform at the PotashCorp Children’s Festival of Saskatchewan, which begins Saturday, June 4 and continues through Tuesday, June 7. This is PotashCorp’s sixth year as presenting sponsor of the festival, which turns 28 this year.

“We are delighted we can help bring another edition of the festival to kids and families,” says Randy Burton, PotashCorp’s Director of Public Relations and Communications.  “It’s a great blend of entertainment and education that has become a start-of-summer tradition in Saskatoon. PotashCorp believes in supporting events like this because they genuinely enrich our community.”

Along with the main show tent and outdoor stage, there are oodles of other activities for kids and caregivers at the festival site, including PotashCorp’s ever-popular Fossil Find.

In the Fossil Find tent, kids sift through soil brought in from PotashCorp’s phosphate operation in Aurora, North Carolina. It is rich in treasures like buried shells, coral fish bones and shark teeth, which kids get to keep once they find them. They can also learn about why these fossils endure after most ancient sea life has broken down into the phosphate material PotashCorp mines at Aurora.

While visiting the Children’s Festival kids can also: practise circus arts, learn childhood games from around the world, create with Lego, see performances in French, try a unique sport, create art, play First Nations traditional games, listen to a story and of course . . . have their faces painted!

As the world’s largest crop nutrient company, PotashCorp plays an integral role in global food production. The company produces the three essential nutrients required to help farmers grow healthier, more abundant crops. With global populations rising and diets improving in developing countries, crop nutrients such as potash, phosphates and nitrogen offer a responsible and practical solution to help produce the food we need, from the land we have.
