Speech: Values in EU Trade Policy - Targeting Corruption
Policy making | Paris, 19 April 2016
Commissioner Cecilia Malmström spoke at the OECD Integrity Forum in Paris, a gathering of stakeholders and decision-makers dedicated to reducing trade-related corruption.
In her remarks she spoke about the negative impacts of corruption in trade – which include denial of economic opportunities, unfair competition, wasted taxpayer money and, not least, allowing dangerous products on the market. She also outlined the Commission's intention, as set out in the Trade for All strategy, to include anti-corruption provisions in EU trade agreements. For the first time, she gave an indication of the EU's approach, which she argued needs to be comprehensive and ambitious.
