EFSA Journal now available on Wiley
The move brings many advantages. The editorial quality of EFSA’s scientific outputs will benefit from the increased consistency in the application of editorial standards and conventions. Digital workflows will improve organisational efficiency and increase the interoperability of EFSA’s data. The visibility and impact of EFSA’s work will increase thanks to Wiley’s reach within the food science and life science communities. Moreover, the introduction of a professional publishing service will enable EFSA staff to focus more of its time on the core scientific mandate.
The entire Journal backfile to 2003 is available on Wiley Online Library. Several improvements in functionality have been introduced including inter alia full HTML of scientific outputs, Altmetrics impact assessment, and enhanced citation linkage to full text resources and bibliographic databases. The introduction of new social media tools are of strategic importance to EFSA in increasing public engagement while the improved data access and data visualisation will facilitate EFSA’s drive for openness in risk assessment. The introduction of a Creative Commons license (CC-BY-ND) further emphasises that commitment.
The Journal’s migration to its new publishing platform is not the end of the journey. EFSA will continue to avail of future developments in Wiley Online Library and to fill gaps in, for example, database coverage. Keeping abreast of new developments in scientific publishing will ensure that the EFSA Journal becomes an even better resource for Europe’s food safety and risk assessment communities.
