Arginine helps the herpes virus to replicate. (1)

Research shows that the amino acid arginine promotes the replication of the herpes simplex virus, especially HSV-1. “Arginine is a nonessential amino acid that is present in excess in the cell-culture medium used to propagate HSV-1.”(1) Dr. Grady and colleagues wrote in a study that “the amino acid (arginine) is necessary for productive infection.” (1) Because of this fact, doctors recommend that individuals infected with the oral herpes virus (usually HSV-1) cut foods high in arginine from their diet. The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) also recommends taking Gene-Eden-VIR or Novirin against the latent HSV-1. The formula of these natural, antiviral products was shown to reduce symptoms associated with herpes infection in two separate post-marketing clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines.
