Fast Emerging Markets of Mobile and Edge Computing Featured at Open Server Summit 2016

SANTA CLARA, CA, USA, April 7, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Open Server Summit 2016 today announced that it will feature the latest information about edge computing, the idea of bringing computing to the edge of the network to reduce costs and bandwidth demand. Designers will learn about how a combination of high-speed, low-latency interfaces, FPGAs and other accelerators, and low-cost, low-power servers will provide the infrastructure needed for mobile access and other applications. The Summit will be on April 13-14 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.In Session A-101 (Wednesday, April 13, 8:30 to 9:45 am), IDT Director of Strategic Marketing Devashish Paul will present "Low Latency Video Analytics with Scale-Out Servers". He will show how using scale-out servers in edge computing can reduce latency in delivering video and thus provide the clear, continuous pictures customers want to see.
In Session B-203 (Thursday, April 14, 2 to 3:15 pm), E2E Wireless Consulting Engineer Cary Snyder will present "Open RANs Become Mobile Superhighways". He will discuss the Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) as a definitive open networking interface for 5G systems worldwide. The combination of scale-out servers and open networking will provide a low-cost, high-throughput system for delivering mobile information throughout large-scale, high-participation telecom services.
To complement these sessions, a poster in the Open Server Summit exhibit showcase will describe:
• Access network and backhaul to the core with computers at the edge (so-called mobile edge computing or MEC) communicating with applications in the core
• How to achieve low latency by doing computing at the edge to reduce round trip times and then applying low latency interconnect within MEC
• Typical applications, including caching, video streaming, IOT device control and compute offload, and cloud based low latency rendering
• Why low latency interconnect with heterogeneous computing is needed to reduce energy consumption, all tightly coupled with basestation computing
• Markets for servers in mobile edge computing over the next few years
The RapidIO Trade Association booth will have materials describing RapidIO as a high-speed, low-latency interface especially well-suited to 4G and 5G basestations.
The Summit will also include keynotes by such industry leaders as Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, Ethernet Alliance, Microsoft, Mellanox, Cavium, Lenovo, Micron, and Inspur Systems (top server manufacturer in China on hyperscale datacenters).
