USHCC Statement on Donald Trump's Wall Plan

/EINPresswire.com/ -- WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - April 07, 2016) - The following statement is attributable to USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez:

After almost a year of threatening to build a wall along our country's southern border, Donald Trump revealed his plan to pay for it by proposing to cut off the flow of billions of dollars in remittances sent to Mexico.

This proposal is a direct assault on a thriving American industry, which is the envy of the world. World-class U.S. Companies, like MoneyGram and others, currently employ tens of thousands of Americans.

American investments in technology, infrastructure and security have created a platform that facilitates the orderly, safe, legal and transparent flow of $25 billion from the U.S. to Mexico.

Trump's proposal is the height of hypocrisy as a Republican candidate who has rebuked executive orders and big government. At the end of the day, people will continue to send money to Mexico and other parts of the world. Trump would replace our current system, with its transparency and its technological advances, with a shadow economy.

But more importantly, these type of assertions damage an important relationship with Mexico, a critical commercial and national security ally and our third largest trading partner. Currently, the U.S. does more than $550 billion in bilateral trade with Mexico, more than it does with Brazil, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Israel, Italy, Japan and others.

This reckless and potentially dangerous excuse for a plan is the exact definition of government overreach, which would surely create unnecessary taxes and burdensome regulations that would negatively impact a licensed and legitimate industry in our free market system.
