Diabetes Rates Have Quadrupled Since 1980

WHO Report Points to Need for Diabetes Prevention Programs

/EINPresswire.com/ -- CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - April 06, 2016) - The number of adults estimated to be living with diabetes has nearly quadrupled since 1980, the World Health Organization (WHO) said today, pointing to the need for innovative diabetes prevention programs to change eating and exercise habits.

The number of adults with the disease was reported to be 422 million in 2014, up from 108 million in 1980. The UN's health agency attributes this to changes in the way people eat, move and live and called for a coordinated, holistic response to address this epidemic, which costs more than $827 billion worldwide each year.

Retrofit CEO Mary Pigatti is available to comment on this trend and the need for interventions that meet people where they are at and integrate into daily lives to prevent and manage this serious health issue.
