Death of a CBSA Detainee

On March 7, 2016, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) was notified by the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services that an individual under CBSA immigration detention at the Toronto East Detention Centre had passed away.
The individual's identity will not be released at this time.
As in all cases of in-custody deaths, the appropriate authorities have been notified. The CBSA will also be reviewing the circumstances of the death.
The CBSA is not in a position to release further information while the investigation is ongoing.
