USHCC Statement on Confirmation of Ambassador to Mexico

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - March 03, 2016) - The following is a statement attributable to USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez:

/EINPresswire.com/ -- At a time when the political discourse in our nation has turned to bigotry and isolation, we should be focused on improving our relationship with a nation that has for centuries stood beside America as a collaborative and willing partner. And yet, despite a nine month wait, the Senate has yet to name a U.S. Ambassador to Mexico.

I'm particularly disappointed with Senator Bob Menendez. As the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he went against his Democratic colleagues and Republican committee Chairman Corker to block Roberta Jacobson's nomination. What is that if not playing politics?

Besides that, Senator Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz have also showed their opposition to confirming Roberta Jacobson. Like Menendez, they are choosing to obstruct her confirmation for political reasons that blatantly disregard her qualifications and the importance of this vacant post.

Our concern is that without an ambassador in place, the indispensable relationship we share with our southern neighbors may stall, at a time when our mutual economic, security, and cultural interests requires our bond to be stronger than ever. We must confirm Roberta Jacobson as our top diplomat in Mexico or risk weakening our economy as well as our national security.
