Global Road Warrior, Garry Sowerby, invites the world to come to him at the Canadian International AutoShow

The back cover of Sowerby's new book, Driven Mind, describes the contents.

Sowerby, with his book, Driven Mind, is a feature at the AutoShow in Toronto, the most culturally diverse city on Earth.

TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, February 9, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- For Immediate Release.

After four decades of motoring the planet and, as part of the launch of his new book, Driven Mind, Garry Sowerby is being featured at the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto. The auto show will be the third in a series of 7 global launches in 11 months. This launch follows events in Yukon and Jamaica. (Scroll through www.facebook.com/DrivenMindBook to catch up on these).

Why Toronto for Launch #3? “It took me almost 40 years to visit 71 countries. Now, in Toronto, one of the most culturally diverse cities on Earth, I’m hoping the world will come to me. I’d like to thank people for the safe passage their countries gave me on my record runs.”

Sowerby says he will give a book away to the first person to come to his AutoShow exhibit from each of the countries he has visited during his world wanderings. “From Nicaragua? Come to the AutoShow and find me. Is Bulgaria your home country? How about Djibouti, Zimbabwe or even Switzerland? If you’re the first from there to say hello, I’ll give you a copy of Driven Mind.”

The book is a colourful collection of 50 short stories chronicling Sowerby’s adventures including setting four Guinness Records for long-distance driving.

Sowerby’s 1984 GMC Suburban, ‘the one with the bullet holes’, will also be on display at the Canadian International AutoShow

In 1984, Sowerby drove this truck from Cape Agulhas, South Africa to North Cape, Norway, securing a Guinness World Record for fastest transit of the world’s largest land mass. Highlights of the trek included a terrifying ambush in Kenya, a nerve-wracking crossing of the Red Sea for the truck on a smuggling boat and a dicey drive through the Iran-Iraq War.

“People often ask what is my favourite road or place in the world. But after all these years and all this travel, it’s the people I’ve met who have helped me along the way that stay in my mind.”

Driven Mind, published as a 65th birthday present to Sowerby, is ready to inspire a whole new generation of road warriors, backpackers, global wanderers as well as trigger nostalgia and wanderlust in armchair travellers. The book is a 242-page, full-colour quality soft-cover (7" x 8.25") with over 400 images.

Find Garry Sowerby and Driven Mind at the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto from 12 to 21 February on the 800-level across from the concession stand.
