Shattering the Top 10

Rising Stars in Film

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, December 29, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Shattering the top 10 of an international film competition such as the 48-hour Film Project may leave some “disheveled,” but not the Emirati filmmaker Fayssal Bensahli. The caliber of Bensahli’s work is nothing like the title of his latest film “Disheveled.” This rising star is clear and focused about the direction he wishes to take his craft. A 21st century filmmaker, he is passionate about making a wide range of films varying from fictional narratives to documentaries. He has a host of international accolades under his belt, including being a Jury Prize Winner at the San Francisco Shorts Film Festival, and having the first Emirati film in the New York Short Film Festival.
In his latest work, he directed a talented ensemble in a psychological short film thriller for the 48-hour Film Project. Aspiring to engage international audience members, Bensahli uses the power of visuals and subtext to engage the audience, holding them in suspense until the very end. The story is told through visuals in the minds of the two leading characters as they have a present-day conversation about past events.
The short stuns audiences visually through deeply rooted subtext created by the award-winning cinematographer, Khaled Bensahli, Fayssal’s brother. Khaled is a very diversified filmmaker; his films range from short film documentaries about refugees to the UAE’s first action/thriller short film of its kind. Khaled’s films have also debuted at international film festivals such as DOCNYC, among others. Khaled is an extremely driven cinematographer who, along with his brother Fayssal, is always creating new and innovative storytelling techniques. Visionary leaders in their craft, the Bensahli brothers were born to create innovative films.

Disheveled is produced by Farah El Sayegh. Farah masterfully kept the production on budget and on schedule while maintaining cohesion among all team members. Through her well organized efforts and attention to detail, the project was submitted within 48 hours. Disheveled’s executive producer is Taylor Re Lynn. The film is written by Fayssal Bensahli, Josh Paapa Shogole, Ahmad Sahmoud, and Khaled Bensahli. The editor is the amazingly talented Hani Fayed.
The distinguished ensemble cast includes a variety of established actors including Adam ST, Robert Mardini, Cristina Mejia, Hamad Baker, Fouad Diab Maalouf, Joaquim Gonsalves, and Aidrous Saleh Al Hashemi.

This year’s 48-hour Film Project has toured 130 cities and brought together talent from around the world. Over 50,000 people were asked to complete an entire film from writing, casting, filming and editing within 48 hours. Over 4,000 films were received and submitted for screening for the public and judged by a panel of experts. The Disheveled film was among the few that won a coveted spot in Dubai’s top 10. In addition to Disheveled being one of the top 10 finalists for the 48-hour Film Project and being screened at this year’s Dubai International Film Festival, the Bensahli’s brothers had a record 5 films showcased at the Dubai International Film Festival. Along with Disheveled, their film Omnia was a Muhr Emirati DIFF Official Selection, and three of their films were showcased in the Cinetech Distributors Market including the Diversion, Sugarmen, and Skin films. The Bensahli’s are indeed making history and paving the way for future generations of filmmakers through innovative storytelling.
