EU commits €600,000 to support developing countries' customs reforms

Doha Development Agenda | Brussels, 17 December 2015

The EU has committed to donate €600,000 to support developing countries in their efforts to implement the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) and make their customs procedures faster and smoother.

The EU's commitment is part of a grant agreement concluded in the margins of the 10th WTO Ministerial Conference in Nairobi.

The support will be delivered in the framework of the Trade Facilitation Agreement Facility of the WTO that complements other EU-supported programmes underpinning the implementation of the TFA.

It aims at supporting the least developed and other developing countries to define their needs and provides technical assistance for the implementation of their obligations under the agreement.

This pledge complements other programmes related to the implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and is part of a larger EU's commitment.

The EU is the world's most generous Aid for Trade donor. The total EU's contribution to the poorest trading nations amounts to €12 billion annually.
