Seattle Scanning Company Micro Com Systems Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Micro Com System Ltd in Seattle Looks Back on Technological Progress After 40 Years in Business

/EINPresswire.com/ -- SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - December 04, 2015) - Micro Com Systems, a document scanning company in Seattle, has just celebrated their 40th anniversary. Four decades has seen a remarkable evolution in the copy and scanning business, and General Manager, Joe Bryant, reveals some of the changes he witnessed in an article posted on the company website: http://www.microcomseattle.com/blog/.

"Back in 1975, I was hired on as a delivery driver but soon was moved indoors as a Copyflo operator," says Joe. "The Copyflo machine was a huge contraption that produced a continuous roll of paper prints from a roll of microfilm. Once the roll was complete, I would sit at a trimming board and slice each page to create single sheets of prints. This required a dedicated room with ventilation as it got very hot."

In the article, Joe reveals how creating copies on location required him to travel around the Pacific Northwest with a portable microfilm camera, capturing the images that would eventually be run on the Copyflo. His camera separated and fit into two large cases, a marvel engineered by the Kodak Company.

"Now if we need to capture images at a remote site, we need to pack up a PC, monitor, and scanner. However, in this case, I think the old tech might actually be a better setup, at least as far as portability is concerned."

Joe also remembers discussing the possibility of digitized printing at a trade function that took place over two decades ago. Although the potential was exciting, he was certain this advancement wouldn't take place in his lifetime. An observation that he laughingly admits was wrong.

When digital document imaging was introduced, it took off like a rocket. Now, the only time anyone at Micro Com Systems sees microfilm is when a client wants it digitized.

"Document imaging has made great strides over the last 40 years, and I'm curious and excited to see what the industry will come up with leading up to my 50 year anniversary," says Joe.
