Twigle Bird Photo ID App Released on Android by Avelgood Apps
Twigle is designed to help birders to quickly and easily identify birds. Powered by advanced deep learning techniques the app can identify birds in photographs.
Twigle has already been available on iOS and Windows since 2014 and has just been released on Android today. The app also sports audio recognition of birdsongs for about a hundred common birds of North America and the UK.
Whilst there are other apps that offer image or audio recognition for birds, Twigle is the only one that does both. It is also the only birding app with image recognition for birds of Southern Africa and the UK. Its coverage for 540 North American birds is more comprehensive than any other competitor in terms of automatic recognition.
The app will also allow the user to log their sightings with location data that can be shared with conservationists. This will add to the existing pool of critical bird distribution data needed by researchers to monitor bird populations and ecosystem health.
The app includes other traditional birding app features by providing detailed species descriptions, a bird journal, HD photos and recordings of birdsongs that can be played back from the on-device database. Birders can also use Twigle to help them identify birds by manually entering the physical characteristics of the bird that they are seeing, like its size and colour and the app will find the closest match.
Avelgood Apps which is based in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe has since 2012 been publishing several apps on various platforms that have over 10 million downloads and has also won the Opera Top Apps Award.
