Policy Analysis Data Presentation: A New Approach

A pictorial presentation of presidential candidates' policies to enhance voter understanding.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, U.S.A,, December 2, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- To avoid the fragmented confusion surrounding the policies of the many candidates for the Presidency of the United States in 2016, the Center for Scientific Analysis of Policy, LLC has adopted a bold new approach to understanding and dealing with them. Economic policy was chosen for the initial study since the economy influences all federal, state, and local governments’ activities.

The Center, d/b/a SciPolicy.org, has been evaluating the economic policy statements of those candidates since the beginning of this electoral period using Integrative Propositional Analysis (Wallis, S. How to Choose Between Policy Proposals: A Simple Tool Based on Systems Thinking and Complexity Theory. E:CO – Emergence: Complexity and Organizations. Vol. 15 [3]) and publishing the results at http://scipolicy.org/potus-candidates-policies.html. Recognizing the difficulty of approaching, analyzing, and assimilating the raw data obtained, a means to mitigate the burden of dealing with the mass of ideas and numbers was developed, a new, scientific, nonpartisan approach of integrating policies and creating an overview that eases the comprehension of an individual's and of a group's proposed policies.

Merging the results of the individual analyses allows the creation of a series of integrated and interactive graphics, referred to as maps, that display the components of the policies; this enables the reader to focus on any element and its relationships and magnify them for study.

Some maps deal with single candidates, others with groups of candidates, while the remainder are devoted to important policy topics. The vivid presentations of this fresh, integrated, and interactive method are intended to help voters understand, evaluate, and compare those policies, enhancing their decision making and the basis of our democratic process. The maps are published at https://kumu.io/Center-for-Scientific-Analysis-of-Policy/all-potus-candidates-economic-policies#.

This new approach is not limited to economic policy; it is applicable for non-profits, coalitions, and researchers to analyze and improve policy of any kind. It has been adopted as a standard method by The Center for Scientific Analysis of Policy, LLC and its senior collaborator Meaningful Evidence, LLC.
