Partnerships in food education are recipe for success
13 November 2015
The Scottish food and drink manufacturing industry is a great success story, employing 34,000 people and contributing £1.7 billion gross value added to the economy. However, despite this success, food and drink companies continue to face challenges attracting the right staff.
To help address this SFDF's Schools Programme - A Future in Food, sponsored by the Scottish Government, brings together local companies and schools to help students, teachers, and careers advisers understand the variety of exciting and rewarding careers the industry has to offer and the skills required. The programme also assists the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) in developing qualifications with industry which are quality-assured and provide learners with the skills, knowledge and confidence to be successful within our vibrant sector.
SQA has produced a set of short films that highlight the benefits of partnership working and the qualifications that are being developed to support the food and drink manufacturing industry. Moira Stalker, National Co-ordinator for SFDF's Schools Programme, features in the overview video, where she emphasises the mutual benefits of industry and schools working in partnership to deliver the curriculum. The videos also showcase successful industry and school partnerships, including Bathgate Academy and AK Stoddart's successful Make it with Meat challenge.
Please see SQA's news release for more information on the videos.
