DOE Awards Carlsbad Technical Assistance Contract
Cincinnati - The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced today that Portage, Inc., the incumbent contractor, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, has been awarded a $42.4 million contract to provide technical support services to the DOE Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) in all program areas. The contract includes a three-year base period of performance with one two-year option period.
This contract includes the option to issue both Time-and-Materials (T&M) and Fixed-Price task orders. Services to be provided by the contractor include:
- Regulatory oversight
- Quality Assurance Auditing and Assessments
- Independent Oversight
- Safety oversight
- Environmental compliance oversight
The primary mission of the CBFO in Carlsbad, New Mexico is to lead the nation’s transuranic (TRU) waste disposal effort and manage the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), the nation’s first facility for deep geological disposal of TRU waste as by-products of nuclear weapons production and disassembly. It has been developed by the U.S. Department of Energy in southeastern New Mexico, about 26 miles east of Carlsbad.
