This seminar will provide learners with a comprehensive update on Executive Order (E.O.) 13693 provisions related to energy, water, greenhouse gas emissions, electronic stewardship, sustainable purchasing, recycling and waste reduction, and environmental management.

Seminar instructors will also offer guidance on how to use performance contracting, including utility energy service contracts and energy savings performance contracts, to meet E.O. 13693 compliance goals.

By completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand provisions outlined in Executive Order 13693 and how these differ from previous executive orders

  • Identify strategies for implementing E.O. 13693 provisions related to energy, water, greenhouse gas emissions, electronic stewardship, sustainable purchasing, recycling and waste reduction, and environmental management

  • Discuss new Guiding Principles and their relationship with E.O. 13693

  • Discuss opportunities for your agency to customize their E.O 13693 implementation plans.

The instructors for this First Thursday Seminar are John Shonder, director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Sustainability Performance Office (SPO), and Josh Silverman, director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Sustainability Support.

After completing a course evaluation and multiple-choice assessment, participants will receive a certificate of completion and be eligible for continuing education units.

FEMP First Thursday Seminars are designed for federal energy and facility managers but are open to all individuals on the FEMP Training Search. Courses are hosted in partnership with the National Institute of Building Sciences' Whole Building Design Guide.
