Shingles: Is a Painful Rash the Biggest Problem?; The CBCD Answers a Survey Question

Is dealing with a rash the biggest problem faced by those with Shingles? The CBCD answers a question from its October 2015 survey.

Pain is actually the most common, and most troubling symptom of shingles.

Ever had chickenpox? The CBCD recommends Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR against the latent varicella zoster virus, which can cause chickenpox and shingles.

A blister filled rash is one of the most recognizable signs of herpes zoster (shingles). The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD)’s October 2015 survey found that 87% of participants had the false belief that the typical shingles rash is the biggest problem facing patients that develop this painful disease. The reality, however, is that pain is actually the most common, and most troubling symptom. “The pain associated with shingles can be severe. It may begin two to four days before the rash appears and it (the pain) can last long after–sometimes up to a year or more. The pain that lasts after the rash has healed is called post-herpetic neuralgia, or PHN.” (1)

“Shingles is caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV), the same virus that causes chickenpox. After a person recovers from chickenpox, the virus stays dormant (inactive) in the body. For reasons that are not fully known, the virus can reactivate years later, causing shingles.” (2)

The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) recommends that individuals who are concerned about developing shingles, take Gene-Eden-VIR or Novirin against the latent varicella zoster virus. The formula of these natural antivirals was designed to help the immune system target latent viruses, and was shown to reduce symptoms associated with herpes viruses in two separate post-marketing clinical studies.

The formula of these natural antiviral products was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. The studies showed that the Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin formula is effective against herpes viruses. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs. Study authors wrote that, “individuals infected with (herpes viruses) … reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with Gene-Eden-VIR.” (3) The study authors also wrote that, “we observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms.” (3)

Both products can be ordered online on the Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR websites here:

Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR are natural antiviral dietary supplements. Their formula contains five natural ingredients: Selenium, Camellia Sinesis Extract, Quercetin, Cinnamomum Extract, and Licorice Extract. The first ingredient is a trace element, and the other four are plant extracts. Each ingredient and its dose was chosen through a scientific approach. Scientists at polyDNA, the company that invented and patented the formula, scanned thousands of scientific and medical papers published in various medical and scientific journals, and identified the safest and most effective natural ingredients against latent viruses. To date, Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR are the only natural antiviral products on the market with published clinical studies that support their claims.

Note: Novirin has the same formula as Gene-Eden-VIR. However, it contains higher quality and more expensive ingredients.

“Almost 1 out of every 3 people in the United States will develop shingles, also known as zoster or herpes zoster, in their lifetime. There are an estimated 1 million cases of shingles each year in this country. Anyone who has recovered from chickenpox may develop shingles; even children can get shingles. However the risk of shingles increases as you get older. About half of all cases occur in men and women 60 years old or older.” (2)

Are there treatments currently on the market, which target the Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV)?

Yes there are.

Antiviral drugs, such as Zovirax or Valtrex are designed to fight the shingles virus. However, these medications, when effective, only work to shorten the time of the shingles outbreak. They are ineffective against the latent VZV virus. (4)

The CBCD reminds the public that Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin are not a cure for conditions caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus. However, their formula was designed to help the immune system target the latent shingles virus.
