49 Years and Counting: A Type 1 Diabetes Story

Bognanno, President & CEO of Community Health Charities, recently sat down with Jim Horbowicz, past Chair and board member of the American Diabetes Association and Community Health Charities, to discuss what the last 50 years have been like living with type 1 diabetes.
1. You have had type 1 diabetes for almost 50 years, which some would recognize as quite an achievement as an adult. What do you believe has led to your success?
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the summer of 1966, as I was finishing up my freshman year of college. I thought it was just my allergies acting up, but something about my symptoms made my allergist check my blood glucose. His instinct was right: my blood glucose levels were sky high. Read more...
