EPA Releases Updated Top Green Power Partners

November 2015 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Green Power Partnership recently released updated lists of the top Green Power Partners. This update includes the National Top 100 list, Top 30 Local Government, and Top 30 College & University. New additions to the National Top 100 list are Mars Incorporated (6th) and Equinix, Inc. (18th). Intel Corporation remains in first place using over 3 billion kilowatts-hours (kWh) of green energy to cover 100 percent of its electricity demand. The Green Power Partnership features Top Lists in the following categories: Top 30 Retail list , Top 30 College & University List , Top 30 On-site Generation List , Top 10 Federal Government , Top 30 K-12 Schools , Top 30 Local Government List , Top 30 Tech & Telecom , Fortune 500 Partners , 100% Green Power Users , and Long-term Contracts List .

The EPA also released standings for the 2014-15 College & University Green Power Challenge, which monitors green power use at colleges and universities both individually and by athletic conference. The University of Pennsylvania tops the list for green power use with overall 200 million kWh annually, followed by Georgetown University (152 million kWh), the Ohio State University (130 million kWh), Northwestern University (122 million kWh), and University of Oklahoma (120 million kWh). On the government side, the City of Dallas, with 715 million kWh meeting 100 percent of the city's electricity demand, was the largest local government user of green power in the nation, followed by the City of Houston (623 million kWh), the District of Columbia (469 million kWh), Montgomery County in Maryland (431 million kWh), and the City of Austin (280 million kWh).
