Equinix to Power California Data Centers with 100% Renewable Energy

October 2015 - Equinix, a global interconnection service provider, has agreed to purchase solar energy to power all of its California data centers, including its headquarters in Redwood City. Under a five-year power purchase agreement with SunEdison, Equinix will purchase electricity from a 150-megawatt solar project located in Imperial Valley, California. The solar project will generate approximately 300,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, enough to power all of Equinix' s California operations and increase the company's global renewable energy use from 30 percent to 43 percent. Equinix will receive Green-e certified renewable energy certificates from SunEdison during the gap between contract execution and the project's anticipated completion in late 2016.
