A report released today features new analysis showing how the UK electricity system wastes a staggering £9.5 billion from the loss of energy before it reaches homes and businesses. .
“Less Waste, More Growth: Boosting Energy Productivity” is published today by a coalition of 14 organisations, including the Food and Drink Federation (FDF), united by a shared vision of creating a more efficient, competitive, low carbon Britain through a common purpose to cut this waste.
FDF's Head of Climate Change & Energy Policy, Stephen Reeson, commented: “FDF very much welcomes the publication of this report which highlights the huge potential for boosting energy productivity. Reducing energy waste could contribute to productivity and growth in the UK economy. It's vital that as part of the Government's review of the energy and climate change policy landscape they take heed of the messages in this report and ensure that any revision to the energy tax regime continues to support and incentivise manufactures to further deliver energy productivity improvements.”
The analysis, led by the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE), outlines a number of ways of reducing energy waste, including appropriate, long term policy support that could cost-effectively reduce business and public sector bills by £570 million, improving competitiveness and investment.
