Resumed gas export to Azerbaijan to meet growing demand of Republic
St. Petersburg hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Rovnag Abdullayev, President of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).
The parties addressed issues of the bilateral cooperation in the energy sector between the two companies. The point of the meeting was to resume natural gas supplies to Azerbaijan by Gazprom. It was noted that export gas supplies would make it possible to meet the growing energy demand of the Republic.
Background
The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) is Azerbaijan’s major state-owned petroleum company focused on oil, gas and condensate exploration, production, processing, transportation and sales.
On September 11, 2015 Gazprom Export and Azerbaijan Methanol Company (AzMeCo) signed a mid-term Supply and Purchase Agreement to deliver up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
