Deere & Company and UAW Open Contract Negotiations

MOLINE, Ill. — The UAW and Deere & Company today officially opened negotiations on a new master agreement covering approximately 11 UAW local unions and approximately 11,200 members. The current agreement expires Oct. 1, 2015. After this announcement, the company and union leadership have agreed to not make public comments on contract issues during negotiations.

“This process of bargaining is not new to any of us, we have negotiated contracts at John Deere before,” said UAW President Dennis Williams. “Over the years, we have gone through many changes and sacrifices. In the last year, we have gone through some tough times. But we know from history that these times are cyclical. And we know from history that the key to a good contract is one in which UAW members prosper, John Deere prospers and customers prosper with our products.”

"Starting with today’s handshakes we are committed to work as hard as we can to get an agreement in which our members can be proud of, the company can feel good about and our customers can continue to reap the benefits of UAW-made quality products,” said UAW Vice President Norwood Jewell, who directs the union's Agricultural Implement Department.

The locations represented by the UAW/Deere Master Factory Agreement include the John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, Ill.; John Deere Seeding Group/Cylinder Division in Moline, Ill.; John Deere North American Parts Distribution Center in Milan, Ill., John Deere Davenport (Iowa) Works; John Deere Des Moines (Iowa) Works; John Deere Dubuque Works (Iowa); John Deere Ottumwa (Iowa) Works; John Deere Engine Works; John Deere Waterloo Works; John Deere Waterloo Tractor, Cab Assembly Operations, John Deere Product Engineering Center, John Deere Foundry, all in Waterloo, Iowa; and parts depots in Atlanta and Denver. The John Deere Coffeyville (Kansas) Works will also be covered by the upcoming agreement.
