Industry welcomes encouraging GCSE results day figures
20 August 2015
FDF welcomes the figures from today's GCSE results and congratulate pupils on their hard work and dedication, which has contributed to an increase in attainment and uptake of key subjects such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Our members continue to report skills gaps, particularly in engineering, technology and food science, so it is particularly encouraging to see such a development in subject areas that will play a significant role in creating a highly skilled and suitably qualified workforce for the future.
Through our award winning careers campaign 'Taste Success: a Future in Food' we are working with schools and careers advisors to bust the myths about food and drink manufacturing and raise awareness of the excellent career prospects our sector has to offer.
FDF continues to work with member companies to promote the variety of pathways for young people into the food and drink industry, and the long-term career opportunities it offers, through apprenticeships, A-levels, and University options such as the industry-supported MEng Food Engineering degrees at Sheffield Hallam University.
