NV Energy to Provide Switch Ltd. with 100% Renewable Energy
August 2015 - The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) authorized Switch Ltd. to source renewable energy for its data center operations from a 100-megawatt solar photovoltaic project constructed by First Solar. The agreement is the result of Switch Ltd.'s multi-year effort to power its data centers with 100 percent renewable energy. In June 2015, the PUCN denied Switch Ltd.'s request to leave its local utility, NV Energy, to procure an alternative electricity supplier. The PUCN decision is a settlement package to allow Switch Ltd. to procure renewable energy through NV Energy with a NV Green Energy Rider tariff. Switch Ltd. will be NV Energy's first commercial customer to operate using 100 percent renewable energy within the city of Las Vegas, Nevada, when the solar project becomes operational in late 2016.
