Wind Energy Boom Couldn't Come at a Better Time
Date: 8/10/2015
The Washington Post reported on the two Energy Department market reports released this week and interviewed Jose Zayas, who heads the Wind and Water Power Technologies Office at the Energy Department's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The article explored report findings including the industry's rapid installation rate, its decreasing costs and advancing technologies, and the growing number of industry jobs. According to Zayas, the 66 gigawatts of installed capacity "dispels myths that you cannot have significant amounts of wind energy in the system—a variable source in the system—without really affecting the overall efficiency." An additional 13 gigawatts of wind energy are set to come online by 2016, which should help meet requirements of the Clean Power Plan.
