New York State to Allow Shared Renewables Projects
August 2015 - The New York Public Service Commission announced a final order for a Shared Renewables initiative that will allow New York's energy customers to participate in local renewable energy projects. Participating customers will receive a credit on their utility bill for their portion of renewable energy produced. The order will allow ten or more families or businesses to invest in renewable energy together and share net metering credits. In the first phase of New York's Shared Renewables initiative, low and moderate-income customers who lack access to financing will be able to participate and benefit from local power production. Beginning May 1, 2016, shared renewable projects will be available to all customers in the second phase of the initiative.
